Singer, songwriter, and Glee star Derik Nelson is bringing his high-energy show to Centralia College for a special performance May 2.
As the featured artist for the college’s 2015 President’s Scholarship Performance, Derik will wow the crowd with an energetic mix of pop/rock music, including his original songs and popular covers in the top 40 genre (Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Imagine Dragons). The concert will feature his full band, state of the art lights and sound, a 20-foot immersive video wall, and guest appearances from his own singing siblings, Riana and Dalten Nelson.
Derik will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Centralia College’s Corbet Theater in Washington Hall. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $30 for box seats and can be purchased from Book n Brush in Chehalis or by calling the Ticket Office at 360-736-9391, ext. 777. Proceeds from the performance benefit the Centralia College President’s Scholarship Fund.
Famous for his weekly appearance as the guitarist on the FOX television show Glee, Derik’s original music has been featured on the hit TV series Felicity and the feature film Commencement. His singing voice has been heard on other network shows such as Raising Hope, New Girl, How I Met Your Mother, Go On, and The Voice.
Even before graduating from Capital High School in Olympia, Derik had already written, produced and recorded two original albums. Derik was awarded the Brian Wilson Music Scholarship for songwriting in 2008 and completed his sixth full-length album, Songs About Winter, in 2011. His song, Take Chances, composed especially for the University of Southern California commencement in 2011, gained national attention. His popular You Tube channel has also received millions of views.
