Veterans to hold Memorial Day Ceremony

Memorial Day 2014Everyone is welcome to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony Friday, May 22, at 11:30 a.m. at the Veterans Monument between Hanson and the library.

This year’s guest speaker will be Vernon Barlow Jr., a veteran and current Centralia College student who will be graduating this June with his associate degree in business.

After the ceremony, all are invited to the Veterans Center in Kemp 103 for fellowship, refreshments, and snacks.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, was initiated to honor both Confederate and Union soldiers who fought and died during the Civil War. Today Memorial Day honors all deceased veterans of all the wars fought by American forces. It became a federal holiday in 1971.
