Parenting is never easy, but the experts at Centralia College can make the job easier. Here are several of the parenting classes offered for summer quarter.

Grandparents as Parents

6-8 p.m. Mondays

Grandparents as Parents (GAP) is an education and support class designed for grandparents and other relative caregivers who are raising their relatives’ children. This one-credit class is paid for in part through a partnership with Family Education and Support Services and Area Agency on Aging.

Parenting in Recovery

9:30 a.m.-Noon Wednesdays

July 1-Aug. 19

Centralia College TEEN Building

This class is designed for parents in substance abuse recovery. The focus is on understanding the impact of substance abuse on family dynamics, rebuilding trusting relationships, and renewing family bonds.

This two-credit class is paid for in part by grants from Lewis County Chemical Dependency-Mental Health-Therapeutic Courts Sales and Use Tax and from NW HIDTA through Lewis County Social Services.

Summer Spectrum Program

The Summer Spectrum Program is a six-week program for parents and children ages 3-8 on the autism spectrum. The class is presented by the Lewis County Autism Coalition and Centralia College.

TIPS (Training in Positive Parenting Skills)

TIPS is a class designed to strengthen family relationships. Learn how to feel more confident as a parent, improve your parent-child relationship, and strengthen your parenting skills.

Learning with Infants and Toddlers

The NW Sports Hub and Sports Complex

Cost: Free for In-Tot clients, $32 for non-clients

Learning with Infants and Toddlers in a Natural Classroom Setting is designed as an opportunity for developmentally delayed and typically developing children from birth through 36 months to learn together. Parents/caregivers will learn about developmental ages and stages and gain tools to promote their child’s individual development.

Incredible Years®

 The Incredible Years® program is designed to strengthen parent-child interactions while promoting children’s social skills, emotional regulation and problem solving, each an essential school readiness component. This two-credit class is paid for in part by a grant through DBHR and the Morton Coalition in partnership with Morton Co-op Preschool. Free childcare is offered during class.
