New Student Survival Guide

clocktower2Welcome to Centralia College and congratulations on choosing one of the best colleges in the state. As a new student, it might be overwhelming as you navigate the campus and learn what services and support are available to you.

If you’ve come this far, you’re already registered for your classes and have a student number, that number allows you to access the many services and amenities while attending Centralia College.

Here are some of the departments, services, and support centers that you may find helpful.

Get your Student ID
Student Center Room 101
Monday-Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Student IDs are free. Make sure you have your student number and are registered for classes.

Get a parking permit
Welcome Desk
Student Center

Parking is available with a permit during the day in any of the campus parking lots; street parking is also available. Student and guest parking permits may be obtained at the Welcome Desk in the Student Center. Please bring your student ID and license plate number with you.

Permits are free; however, there is a $2 replacement cost.

*Due to construction of the new TransAlta Student Commons, parking has shifted from the center of campus to the northwest behind the Technology building. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to park, especially the first week of classes.

Activate your student email account
Centralia College provides email accounts to students in partnership with Microsoft Corporation. For most students, your email address will be firstname.lastname@student.centralia.edu (ex: john.doe@student.centralia.edu).

Logging in for the first time
Change your password, and setup your secret question and any alternative email address, so you can reset your password if you forget it.

Get your books and class supplies
Centralia College Bookstore
Student Center (lower level)
Extended Hours Sept. 21- 23: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fall Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

You’ll need to purchase or rent books for each class through the Centralia College Bookstore. You can also purchase your books through the Centralia College Bookstore website.

Get a meal or snack
Blazer Bite cafeteria
Student Center
Monday-Friday: 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Get a quick beverage or snack
I Bean Espresso and Mini Donuts
Walton Science Center lobby
Monday-Friday: 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

There are also vending machines available throughout campus for a variety of snacks and drinks.

Find a computer
There are two computer labs available for students on campus, one in the library and one on the second floor of Washington Hall. The Computer Commons and Labs are for students only with printing available for a small fee. No food or drink is allowed in the Computer Commons or Labs.

Get help with your homework
Tutoring Center
Walton Science Center Room 309
Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m.- 3 p.m.
Friday : 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday: CLOSED
The Tutoring Center can help with many subjects including math, statistics, chemistry, engineering, physics, accounting, and even music. For more information, call the Tutoring Center at 360-736-9391, ext. 205

Writing center
Kemp 105
Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday: CLOSED
You can drop in for assistance with writing projects on any topic. The Writing Center also has “quiet” rooms and laptops available for check out. For more information, call 360-736-9391, ext. 564.

Centralia College East
Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Fridays: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For students attending Centralia College East in Morton, no student IDs or parking permits are required. Most services, such as COMPASS testing and advising, are by appointment only. However, Centralia College East students are always welcome to use any of the services and support centers on the main campus. For more information call Centralia College East at 360-736-9391, ext. 380.
