Science has never been more fun than at the Expanding Your Horizons conference at Centralia College from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 17.
This hands-on science and technology conference is for young women in 6-9th grades. Workshops will explore careers in medicine, geography, physical therapy, law enforcement, architecture, engineering, chemistry, veterinary medicine, environmental protection, and much more!
Spaces are still available at this popular event. Parents and their daughters can register at the door. Cost is $10 per family. Scholarships are available. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. in the foyer of Washington Hall on the CC campus.
The conference is an outreach effort to encourage young ladies to enroll in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) courses. The young women will participate in fun, hands-on activities and meet successful women who are excelling in STEM-related fields.
There will also be workshops for parents that include information on better preparing students for the future and for college, and what options for financing a college education are available. Centralia College Director of Financial Aid Tracy Dahl will share information and answer questions.
The first Expanding Your Horizons Conference was held in 1976 at Mills College in Oakland, Calif. Since that time, many Expand Your Horizon conferences have been held in cities nationwide. More than 1 million young women have attended, participated in, and enjoyed learning about STEM careers. In Washington State, conferences are held in 15 cities each year.
