Centralia College is hosting a free workshop for kinship and relative caregivers of children in the special education system.
The Family Guide to Special Education Services workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, in the Student Center Atrium at Centralia College (at the corner of South Rock Street and Centralia College Boulevard). The workshop is free and open to all.
Jesse Garner, an educational advocate with Treehouse, will discuss the basics of the special education process, including Individual Education Programs (IEPs), requests for evaluation, evaluations for services, eligibility determinations, special education programs, behavior and discipline, and dispute resolution.
“Individuals will leave this workshop with a better understanding of the special education process,” Garner explained. “They will also gain information that will help them work with the school to understand and meet the needs of their individual student.”
Childcare will be available for the workshop, but RSVP is required. For more information or to reserve a space for childcare, contact Linda Wilcox at 360-736-9391, ext. 464, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
