Free English language workshops

CCEast_IMG_3507Centralia College East in Morton will be offering a series of free English language workshops. The series is designed to help adults learn the English language skills needed to navigate practical situations, such as visiting their child’s school or accessing health services.

The free workshops will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 13 to Feb. 10 at CC East,701 Airport Way. Free childcare will be provided.

The series will include:

– Conversational English instruction with an emphasis on vocabulary for life skills

– Spanish-speaking guest speakers

– Connections to local resources

Guest speakers will present on the following topics in Spanish:

Jan. 13             Navigating your Child’s School with Joe Fenbert, Cispus Learning Center

Jan. 20             Accessing Health Services with Anna Sanchez, Valley View Health Services

Jan. 27             Immigration Information for Students with Zaida Rivera, immigration attorney

Feb. 10            Your Future in Education with Judith Aguilar, Centralia College

Leading the workshops will be Caitlin Arnold, a local organic farmer and graduate in Latin American Studies and Spanish. She said she is excited to help people be confident with the English language so they can take steps to go to school, find a job, be a part of the community, and improve their lives.
