“The best way I can describe the Summer STEM Academy is to say it’s a nerd convention,” explained Steve Norton, Centralia College science professor. “It’s such an amazing week for these kids to explore all kinds of cool things. Everything is hands-on and so different from what’s done in a traditional classroom. Participants rave about the experience and tend to come back year after year.”

This year’s workshops include learning to fly drones, coding an online app, and exploring scientific principles in ecology, geology, physiology, microbiology, robotics, and chemistry.

Cost is $90 for the entire week; scholarships may be available. The Summer STEM Academy is open to all students entering high school this fall (grades 9-12).
