Centralia College is proud to congratulate its Worker Retraining Program Manager Joan Meister for receiving the Region A. Exemplary Staff Award from Staff Training for Technical and Community Colleges (STTACC). She is a great asset to her department and the college.
STTACC is the professional development group for classified staff at Washington community and technical colleges. It supports innovation, training, and leadership by providing resources and connections to classified staff members throughout the state.
Joan began her career at Centralia College more than 20 years ago, first as a student after being laid off from her job at Yard Birds. She then entered the Worker Retraining program and received training in the medical office program, ultimately deciding she didn’t care for the billing part of her position. As part of her education, she had worked in the Worker Retraining office through its work-based learning component. When a position came open in the office, she jumped at it. Working her way up over the years, Joan is now the program manager for the program that she originally entered in as a student.
“I was truly honored when Penny Hinojosa nominated me,” Joan explained. “It’s much more personal when it comes from a co-worker, and means more to me than I can express.”
